inp.polri.go.id - East Java. The East Java Regional Police Cyber Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered a case of personal data misuse involving illegal SIM card registration using other people's identities. The investigation resulted in the arrest of three suspects in Bali and South Kalimantan.
The Head of Public Relations for the East Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast, explained that current digital technology developments have made personal data a valuable asset vulnerable to misuse for cybercrime.
"Protection on personal data is not just about technology, but also concerns the public's basic rights to security and privacy," he said.
The Director of Cyber Investigation for the East Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Bimo Ariyanto, stated that the case came to light after Cyber Crime Investigation personnel discovered suspicious activity on the FastSim website, which offered OTP code services at low prices.
"After a thorough investigation, we successfully uncovered the syndicate," said Bimo Ariyanto during a press conference on Tuesday (5/12/2026).
Based on the investigation, suspect DBS was found to be the creator and owner of the FastBit website and a modem pool manager program that sold OTP codes for SIM cards registered using other people's personal data.
Meanwhile, suspect IGVS was responsible for managing customer service and OTP inventory, while MA registered thousands of SIM cards using NIK and KK data obtained illegally through an application called "Script."
Police also confiscated several pieces of evidence, including 33 modem pools, 11 laptops, eight boxes of SIM cards, and 25,400 SIM cards registered using other people's identities.
Bimo confirmed that the suspects are being charged under Article 51 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 35 of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison and a fine of up to IDR 12 billion.
