South Sumatra Police Uncover Major Drug Bust in Early 2024

The South Sumatra Regional Police's Directorate of Drugs Enforcement unveiled a recently drug case during a press conference led by Chief of the South Sumatra Regional Police Inspector General Albertus Rachmad Wibowo on Sunday morning (11/2/2024). Suspects presented on the 7th floor of the South Sumatra Regional Police Headquarters include Herli, Panji Saputra, and a woman identified as VN, with seized evidence comprises over 111 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 134,195 ecstasy pills. From January to February 2024, the INP's Narcotics Eradication Task Force, under the leadership of Vice Head of INP's Criminal Investigation Agency Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, seized 2.3 tons of crystal methamphetamine, 964,000 ecstasy pills, 1.4 tons of marijuana, and 4.1 million pieces of hard drugs. The South Sumatra Regional Police Task Forces has seized 140 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 150,206 ecstasy pills, with significant seizures were also made by the North Sumatra Regional Police, Lampung Regional Police, and Metro Jaya Regional Police Narcotics Task Forces. Since September 2023, 17,707 suspects have been arrested, with 14,447 under investigation and 3,260 undergoing rehabilitation. (ar/ek/pr/nm)
