inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jember Sub-regional Police investigators detained a truck driver with the initials FAP, a resident of Curahnongko Village, after being named a suspect in a case of subsidized fuel embezzlement at a gas station on Teuku Umar, Jember Regency, East Java.
"We have detained the suspect while awaiting coordination with the Jember District Attorney's Office," said Second Police Inspector Harry Sasono, the Criminal Investigation Unit official of the Jember Sub-regional Police, on Monday (5/11/2026).
FAP purchased a substantial amount of subsidized diesel fuel, up to 4,000 liters, at a gas station on Teuku Umar boulevard using a recommendation letter for farmers' needs in mid-March 2026.
"Investigators also secured a truck, a gas tank used to store diesel fuel, and a recommendation letter for the purchase of subsidized diesel fuel from a farmers' group as evidence. Using this letter, the suspect obtained a substantial amount of diesel fuel at the gas station in Jember," explained Harry.
The truck driver, he said, purchased, transported, and sold the subsidized diesel fuel freely to the public or companies for personal gain.
"The 4,000 liters of diesel fuel were also freely sold to the public because, according to the suspect's confession, the proceeds were used to meet the needs of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri holiday," he continued.
For FAP's actions, investigators charged him under Article 55 of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation, which states that anyone who misuses the transportation and/or trade of government-subsidized fuel, gas fuel, and/or liquefied petroleum gas shall be subject to a maximum prison sentence of six years and a maximum fine of IDR 60 billion.
According to suspect FAP's confession, this was his first time purchasing subsidized diesel fuel at the Teuku Umar gas station and the suspect claimed to be helping farmers obtain subsidized diesel fuel at the station.
"However, the suspect also admitted that a recommendation letter from a farmer group was also misused," said Harry.
He explained that his office was also coordinating with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) and Pertamina regarding possible sanctions against the Teuku Umar gas station in Jember for this violation, which involved improperly serving diesel fuel purchases.
"Pertamina has imposed strict sanctions, prohibiting the gas station from operating for the violation. Therefore, it is currently undergoing a remedial process," he said.
