Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The Medan District Court has sentenced on Thursday (29/8/2024) two drug couriers to life imprisonment for trafficking 53 kilograms of methamphetamine and 10,000 ecstasy pills. 

The court found the drug couriers, identified as Dedi Noiyana (29) and Tanajudin (28), guilty of violating Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.

Presiding Judge Lucas Sahabat Duha said that the defendants' actions did not support the government's anti-drug efforts. No mitigating factors were found in their favor, according to antaranews.com.

The sentence was lighter than the death penalty sought by the prosecutor, Nurhendayani Nasution. Both the defendants and the prosecutor have yet to decide whether to appeal the decision.

The case began in January 2024 when Dedi and Tanajudin were tasked with delivering the drugs from Pekanbaru, Riau. They were arrested by police with the narcotics in their possession before the delivery could be completed.
