inp.polri.go.id - Former Albanian President and Prime Minister, Sali Berisha said he was barred from entering the UK because of his alleged links to criminal gangs.
Citing Reuters on Saturday (23/7), the British Embassy in Tirana said it had taken action against some Albanians regarding crime and corruption. However, the embassy did not mention Berisha's name.
This is not the first time Berisha has been banned from traveling. In 2021, Berisha and his family were banned by the Secretary of State of the United States (US) Antony Blinken from entering US for allegedly committing corruption and abuse of power.
However, Berisha denied the allegations by the United States and Britain. He asserted that it was all slander.
"No one else in the government has fought organized crime and got the results I got," Berisha said.
Berisha served as president of Albania from 1992 to 1997. Then, he served as prime minister of Albania from 2005 to 2013.
He is the de facto leader of the Democratic Party, the largest opposition party created after communism collapsed in Albania.
Of all the allegations made by many parties, Berisha has never faced criminal proceedings in Albania.
