Inp.polri.go.id - Brussels. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed on Sunday (13/7/2025) that the planned 32% reciprocal tariff by the U.S. on Indonesian products has been postponed.
“This is a pause to allow fine-tuning of the proposals already exchanged,” he said, revealing the results of high-level meetings with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington D.C.
The tariff, announced by President Donald Trump to take effect on 1 August 2025, has sparked concern due to its potential impact on key Indonesian exports.
According to Minister Airlangga, the negotiations cover not only tariff issues but also non-tariff barriers, digital economy, economic security, and investment cooperation.
The U.S. has shown strong interest in partnering with Indonesia in critical minerals, particularly nickel, copper, and cobalt — commodities vital for energy transition and technology manufacturing.
The final decision is expected within three weeks.
