Victim of Assault in Papua Identified as KKB Member: Military

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military has identified the victim in a recent assault case in Papua as a member of an armed criminal group (KKB) named Definus Kogoya. However, the perpetrator remains unknown, said the Head of the Information Center of the Indonesian Military, Major General Nugraha Gumilar on Saturday (23/3/2024), as reported by antaranews.com. The incident occurred at Pos Gome, Puncak Regency, Central Papua. The Indonesian Military is treating the matter seriously and conducting thorough investigations, General Nugraha said. Regarding the assailants, the Indonesian Military investigated whether they are indeed soldiers. The viral video footage showed a man wearing attire associated with Battalion Infantry (Yonif) Raider 300/Brajawijaya, though further investigation is needed to confirm this, he said. The Indonesian Military urged patience as investigations continue and pledges transparency in disclosing findings, general Nugraha said. Lieutenant Colonel Candra Kurnia, the Head of Information at XVII/Cendrawasih Military Command,  emphasized the Indonesian Miilitary's adherence to the law and human rights. He highlighted the positive relationship between the military and the people of Papua, emphasizing the absence of misconduct complaints and the community's respect for the soldiers in Ilaga.
