Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka rejected a proposal from a legislator calling for special smoking carriages on long-distance trains, saying it contradicts President Prabowo Subianto’s health agenda.
“This government’s health programs are already clear. There is Free Health Check, the fight against stunting, and the construction of new hospitals,” he said after inspecting Solo Balapan Station in Central Java on Sunday (24/8/2025), as reported by antaranews.com
The Vice President stressed that the proposal is inconsistent with national regulations declaring public transport a smoke-free zone under the Health Law, its implementing regulation, and the 2014 government circular banning smoking in public transport.
Instead, he urged prioritizing facilities such as lactation rooms, baby-changing areas, and improved toilets for pregnant women, mothers, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
