Inp.polri.go.id - Ambon. An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 shook the Bula region in Maluku on Sunday (28/1/2024) around 11.30 am. The epicenter, precisely located at coordinates 2.98 S; 130.5 E, was in the sea, 15 km north of Bula-SBT, at a depth of 10 km. The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat. "The modeling results indicate that this earthquake does not have the potential for a tsunami," said Djati Cipto Kuncoro, the Head of the Ambon BMKG Station. The quake had an intensity of II-III MMI in the Bula area, with vibrations felt by some and slight swaying of light hanging objects. "Until 11.50 am, BMKG monitoring had not detected any aftershock activity," he added. Residents are advised to inspect and ensure the earthquake-resistance of their homes or confirm the absence of damage caused by seismic vibrations before re-entering. (ar/ek/pr/nm)
