Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) has acknowledged that violent protests in late August 2025 marked a turning point and forced the institution to confront weaknesses inside the organization.
The admission was delivered during a national dialogue on police reform in Jakarta on Wednesday (19/11/2025).
“Among the many incidents Polri faced in recent months, the ‘August storm’ became a turning point for Polri to reflect on the current organizational situation,” said Inspector General Achmad Kartiko, reading a keynote speech on behalf of INP Deputy Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, as reported by antaranews.com.
The protests, criticized for escalating into clashes and excessive force allegations, sparked growing public distrust and demands for accountability. In response, the INP announced an acceleration program to reform public service and strengthen community policing, driven by data and field-based evaluation.
The program targets improvements to the police complaint service (SPKT), emergency hotline 110, and routine community patrols. The INP said the initiative was prompted by a Kompas Research survey showing public service performance ranked lowest among the police’s main duties.
