Banten Police Help Supports Their Traditional Machete to be One of Indonesia’s Global Heritage

inp.polri.go.id – Banten Regional Police held an International Machete Seminar, at the Banten Police Multipurpose Hall, Saturday (12/11/22). The seminar was held to support efforts to determine the Banten machete as one of Indonesia's global heritage. Head of Public Relations of the Banten Police, Commissioner Shinto Silitonga explained that the seminar will be attended by 13 countries. Among them, the Netherlands, France, Italy, the United States, Brazil, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and Mexico. Apart from overseas, there will also be participants from within the country who will attend. "There are 100 domestic participants, which are the machete lovers and pencak silat groups," said Commissioner Shinto Silitonga, Saturday (12/11/22). He also explained that the seminar was filled with 3 events, namely the seminar, the coronation of Indonesian heritage machetes, and an exhibition of hundreds of years of heritage machetes. The ultimate goal of this seminar is that the machete is recognized by UNESCO as part of Indonesian heritage. In the seminar, Banten Police Chief Inspector General Rudy Heriyanto also released a book entitled "Trails of the Banten Police in Preserving Heritage Machetes, A Journey to Preserve Adiluhung Culture from Banten to Europe".
