Banten Regional Police Evacuates Fishermen Following Distress Call in Merak Waters

inp.polri.go.id - Banten. Banten Regional Police Marine and Air Unit evacuates the six dead fishermen in a ship and rescues nine others who still drew breath. The evacuation process was in Merak Waters in Tempurung Island on Sunday (8/4/2024).

The Director of Marine and Air Unit of Banten Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Yunus Hadith Pranoto explains that they received an emergency report that there are six fishermen who died, with one in critical condition.

Following the report, he immediately deployed his unit to patrol and investigate the ship.

“Then, at 05.30 a.m, according to the initial information we acquired, we evacuated the fish boat and docked it at Pelangi Ship in Pulorida waters,” explains Yunus.

Police immediately evacuated all boat crews and moved the six dead fishermen to Drajat Prawira Hospital. Meanwhile, the nine other victims, one was in critical condition, were evacuated to Krakatau Steel Hospital.

Currently police are still investigating the cause of the death of the six fishermen.

“We are still awaiting the autopsy result of the victims,” concludes Yunus.
