inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto asked all institutions under his watch to work together with mass media in handling hoax news during the 2024 Regional Head Election.

“Improve your quality and skill in carrying out your duties and function, particularly in supporting the election process that is informative and transparent,” said Hadi on Wednesday (9/4/2024).

According to him, mass media has the important role in educating the people by providing balanced and factual news.

The role of mass media is also very impactful in preventing the rapid flow of hoax news on social media about regional elections.

Furthermore, says Hadi, the spread of hoax news in social media is quite dangerous as it could trigger conflicts in the community. The conflicts can grow bigger and create an uncomfortable situation amidst the community.

Therefore, Hadi hopes the government and mass media can collaborate in suppressing conflicts during the regional head election through accurate and balanced reporting.

“We all hope that the press continues to be the pillar of healthy, strong, and quality democracy," said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
