inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of East Java Regional Police exposed the case of fraud and embezzlement offences. The perpetrator admitted that they could admit the participants of the Police Academy Cadets Selection of 2021 by asking for some amount of money.

The scam was happened in Jember and Surabaya, with the perpetrator initialled HNA (40), a resident of Surabaya, East Java.

Chief of PR and Press Agency of East Java Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Gatot Repli Handoko, explained the admission of the HNA to the victim that they used to help and often admit the Police Academy Cadets Selection participants on Friday (22/10/2021).

After the money had been transferred to HNA, the participant was in fact, failed or did not pass the cadets selection process.

The victim then asked HNA to return the money, but they refused to return it and promised the victim to admit the victim to the special quota lane without any tests because HNA claimed that they had someone they knew at Indonesian National Police.

After the victim agreed, HNA asked for more money from the victim in steps. However, there is no clear information about the special quota way, so that the participants were failed to pass the selection.

The victim asked HNA to return the transferred money. Afterwards, HNA only sent them a transfer form. However, those victims cannot cash the money out because the bank account has been closed.

It is known that there are still other victims who have not been reported and will report the problem to the East Java Regional Police related to the Indonesian National Police recruitment scam.

The perpetrator also claimed to have many colleagues in Indonesian National Police who could help to pass the selection participants through a special quota path.

The loss was estimated at Rp2,197,100,000, with details as follows: the victim NHP Rp1,085,000,000, and victim TC Rp1,412,100,000

The evidence seized by Police is handphone, two participant tags, registration numbers of the Police Academy Cadets Selection of 2021, transfer-proof from the victim to BRI bank account of HNA, transfer-proof from the victim to BNI bank account of HNA, account mutations of BRI and BNI owned by HNA, WhatsApp chat between the victim and HNA, Transfer Form No. BM 1543XX dated August 13, 2021, and Rejection Letter from BRI dated August 18, 2021.

For their actions, the perpetrator was subjected to Article 378 of the Indonesian Criminal Code and threatened by a four-year maximum in prison.
