inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rano Al Fath, responded to the proposal of PDIP politicians who pushed for the Indonesian National Police (INP) institution to be under the Ministry of Home Affairs or the Indonesian National Military (TNI).
The proposal was submitted by the Chairman of the PDIP DPP Deddy Sitorus. He said that his party considered the proposal for INP to be under the Ministry of Home Affairs when talking about alleged intervention in the 2024 Regional Head Elections
However, Rano believes that he did not find any alleged intervention by the police in the Election.
"Well, today everything is going well and smoothly, it should be appreciated, not spreading something that we think is fake news. How can an institution intervene in society as a whole, it's strange. Strange in my opinion," explained Rano.
He said that the merger was not the right decision. He considered that there was already a portion of authority from each institution.
"For us, merging INP either with the TNI or under the Ministry of Home Affairs is not a good reason to minimize intervention of interests in it, considering that the elimination of the old dual function was aimed at eradicating political interests in both institutions so that both become independent institutions according to their respective portions of authority," explained Deputy Chairman of Commission III Rano.
He said that the authority held by the higher ups of INP has been running as it should. In fact, both institutions must be strengthened in the future.
"And thank God, we see that the big goal of the reform has now been achieved, more or less. Although not completely good, evaluation and optimization in all lines must of course be continuously improved to make both institutions in the future increasingly superior in carrying out their respective mandates," concluded Rano.
