Inp.polri.go.id - Banyuwangi.   East Java Regional Police has deployed 31 medical officers to conduct autopsies on victims of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ferry that sank in the Bali Strait on 2 July 2025.

“The identification process is centralized at Blambangan Regional Hospital in Banyuwangi,” said Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast, the East Java Police Head of Public Relations, on Tuesday (8/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team includes forensic doctors, dental experts, and DNA analysts from the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Bhayangkara Hospitals in Bondowoso and Lumajang, supported by specialists from RSUD Dr. Soetomo regional hospital and Airlangga University.

“Every body and personal belonging recovered will be examined and matched with ante-mortem data from the victims’ families,” Chief Jules said, emphasizing that accuracy is the top priority in victim identification.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 30 people have been rescued, 8 confirmed dead, and 27 remain missing. The ferry was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles.
