Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Denpasar District Court sentenced on Thursday (12/9/2024) four Mexicans to three years and 10 months in prison for their involvement in the shooting of Turkish national Mehmet Turan in Badung, Bali.
The panel of judges led by Presiding Judge I Putu Suyoga found the defendants—Jose Alfonso Aramburo Contreras (32), Mayorquin Escobedo Juan Antonio (24), Victor Eduardo Deraz Gonzalez (36), and Sicairos Valdes Roberto (27)—guilty of armed robbery, according to antaranews.com.
The judge ruled that their actions fulfilled the elements of Article 365 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to theft with violence.
The verdict was lighter than the four-year sentence sought by prosecutors. Both the defense and prosecution have seven days to consider whether to appeal.
The incident, planned since December 2023, involved the four Mexicans purchasing Russian-made pistols in Jakarta before returning to Bali to execute their crime. In January 2024, they attacked Turkish victim, Mehmet Turan, at Villa Palm House, shooting him twice before fleeing with cash and valuables.
