Inp.polri.go.id - St. Petersburg. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono has criticized the G7 leaders’ position of siding with Israel over Iran, warning it may escalate the ongoing war in the Middle East.
“We never hoped for this situation. It will only worsen the conflict. Once a war begins, we cannot predict where or how it will end,” he told reporters, as reported by antaranews.com on Thursday (19/6/2025)..
His remarks followed the G7 Summit's declaration that “Iran will never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.” The statement, seen as favoring Israel, came after Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel’s Tel Aviv in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike that killed six Iranian nuclear scientists.
"People affected by attacks are still human beings. They have the right to live, and the right to defend themselves," Minister Sugiono emphasized.
Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to peace, expressing readiness to contribute in any form toward de-escalation and lasting resolution in the region.
