inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized the importance of digital downstreaming and said that data is the "new oil" that must be utilized to win the competition.
"So the data will become very valuable information, become the new oil, become the key to winning the competition," said Gibran in his statement uploaded on Gibran Rakabuming's YouTube account, Monday (26/5) night.
According to him, the form of a country's wealth is now no longer only sourced from land, minerals, or agricultural products, but from data, behavior, and the mindset of the community.
In the digital era, said Gibran, the progress of a nation is not only measured by the ownership of natural resources, but also from control over data and digital assets.
"If in a city the tendency is for people to like buying food online, such as fried chicken, mashed chicken, chicken satay, and various other chicken-based foods, then it is certain that chicken is one of the main needs in that city, so it will be promising for business people to sell chicken there," he said.
Gibran continued that if this kind of data is analyzed broadly and in-depth, the resulting information will be a valuable asset to understand market needs more accurately.
"It looks simple, but can you imagine if this market behavior analysis was carried out broadly, not just for one commodity, not just for one type of transaction, and not just in one city, but all," said the Vice President.
Gibran reminded that the use of data and algorithms should not be allowed to only benefit outsiders.
Therefore, digital downstreaming is considered a strategic need so that Indonesia is not just a market, but a major player in its own digital ecosystem.
