Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has removed 27,334 online gambling-related posts from social media platforms in its ongoing effort to combat illegal gambling activities.
“The government is relentless in its commitment to eliminating online gambling. This remains our priority,” said Marroli J. Indarto, the Ministry’s Director of Political, Legal, and Security Information, on Friday (22/11/2024).
The crackdown targeted three major Instagram accounts linked to promoting gambling: @aboutjapan.drama with 456,000 followers, @sepuh_majongg with 112,000 followers, and @wulancimoci with 142,000 followers, according to antaranews.com.
Since 20 October 2024, authorities have blocked 352,719 gambling-related posts, including 325,582 from websites and IPs, and thousands more on platforms like Meta, Google/YouTube, Telegram, X, and TikTok. Cumulatively, the government has shut down over 5.2 million pieces of gambling content since 2017.
“Online gambling is designed for players to lose more than they win, leading many into debt cycles,” Marroli explained, urging the public to focus on financial literacy. “Gambling does not fix financial problems; it creates them. Let’s fight this together.”
