Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Government extended the emergency disaster response on Mount Ruang eruption in Ruang Island to May 14th, 2024. This was conveyed by the Head of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto.

“We have received the Decree (SK) from Sitaro Island Regent regarding the emergency disaster response on Mount Ruang eruption. The duration for this emergency response will be extended to May 14th,” said Suharyanto on Sunday (5/5/2024).

With the date extension, he asked the provincial and regency governments to take their part in supporting the effort as BNPB could only access the disaster location after the decree of emergency disaster response.

“This status announcement has nothing to do with the government incapabilities. I have always said that no one in this world can stop natural disasters. So, there are no links between the status announcement and government incapabilities,” stressed Suharyanto.

BNPB hopes other regents and mayors would also announce their decree on emergency disaster response. On the other hand, Suharyanto also hopes the North Sulawesi Governor would announce the emergency disaster response to optimize rescue efforts.
