Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced in Jakarta on Saturday (21/3/2026) that the government will implement a mandatory one-day work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants and private sector employees starting after the 2026 Eid Al-Fitr holiday to mitigate global energy crises.
“We will implement this policy after Eid,” he sai, as cited by antaranews.com
Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa added that WFH could save about one-fifth, or approximately 20 percent, of fuel consumption,
The policy follows a directive from President Prabowo Subianto to reduce national fuel dependency amid rising global oil prices and regional instability. While civil servants are strictly required to participate, the government has extended a formal recommendation to the private sector, excluding essential public service providers.
Officials emphasized that limiting WFH to one day a week ensures a balance between energy efficiency and workforce productivity. By scheduling WFH on Fridays, the administration hopes to stimulate domestic tourism through extended weekends while significantly slashing government spending on energy subsidies.
