Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government plans to build “fish milk” factories to increase production and support the local fishing industry, Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Teten Masduki said on Saturday (28/9/2024).

Fish milk, a protein-rich beverage made from fish extract, is part of President-elect Prabowo Subianto’s nutrition program.

Minister Teten said that establishing these factories through fisher cooperatives could make production more efficient and lower costs.

“This strategy is ideal for coastal areas. We are exploring how to encourage fisher cooperatives to build these factories,” he said.

Building a “fish milk”factory will require a budget of approximately Rp 20 billion, with most of the funds allocated for infrastructure and equipment like protein extractors. Minister Teten is optimistic that these factories can be set up in coastal regions within three years.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is working to get approval from the Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) for fish milk products, which will be included in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program under President-elect Prabowo’s initiative.
