inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. The West Papua Provincial Government will immediately follow up on information about mining activities that are suspected of damaging and polluting the natural environment in Raja Ampat Regency.
Head of the West Papua Province Environment, Forestry and Land Agency Julian Kelly Kambu said that there were no official reports related to environmental damage due to mining activities in Raja Ampat that had been received by the government. However, his party is following up on the information to ensure its truth.
"There are only two companies that have permits for nickel mining in Raja Ampat, namely PT GAG Nikel and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining," he explained, quoted by Antaranews on Monday (5/19/2025).
Julian Kelly revealed that the two companies have met the requirements starting from the environmental impact analysis (amdal) study and area use permits..
He also admitted that Raja Ampat Regency is currently being widely discussed regarding the presence of nickel mining in the area.
The information related to environmental, forestry, and land damage, he said, came from the media. However, there have been no official reports from the community and/or non-governmental organizations to date.
"This means that we will continue to follow up the case with the relevant parties even though no reports have been received," he said.
He is committed that the government will be upright in handling this case objectively.
