Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Three suspects involved in an alleged human trafficking ring at Kalibata City apartments in South Jakarta used Turkiye's visa-free entry policy as part of their scheme, authorities reported on Tuesday (12/11/2024).

The suspects, identified as DR, DC, and AG, were arrested on 7 November 2024, according to antaranews.com.

South Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Chief Superintendent Gogo Galesung, said that  the trio recruited Indonesian migrant workers illegally, targeting Erbil in Iraq as the final destination.

Victims were promised monthly wages of $300 to work as domestic helpers.

Recruited from various regions in Indonesia, they were initially taken to Kalibata City apartments and later flown from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Turkiye, where no visa is required. The route involved a stopover in Doha, Qatar, before moving onward to Iraq with arranged visas upon arrival.

The suspects face charges under the Migrant Worker Protection Law and the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years.
