inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The Ministry of Social Affairs has removed hundreds of thousands of social assistance recipients due to suspicions of online gambling.
The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, noted that at least 600,000 social assistance recipients are suspected of gambling.
"We obtained this data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), after we visited and requested confirmation regarding the accounts of social assistance recipients. Of the more than 9 million online gamblers, 600,000 are listed as social assistance recipients," he said, as reported by RRI on Saturday (8/8/2025).
He further revealed that his office is still investigating the approximately 375,000 other names on the list, including examining the recipients' employment profiles and economic backgrounds.
He noted that the data also includes a number of social assistance recipients who work as doctors, state-owned enterprise employees, and even members of regional legislatures.
He said that the issue of social assistance not being properly targeted has indeed been a concern. Therefore, his office is continuing to improve the data collections to further filter the recipients of social assistance.
