Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has identified Indonesia and India as strategic targets for international drug trafficking networks due to their similar geographic and demographic profiles.
“Both countries are maritime nations with vast coastlines and rank among the world's five most populous nations. Close collaboration is essential,” said BNN Chief Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom on Wednesday (16/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Chief Hukum held a meeting with India’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Bijay Selvaraj, on 7 July 2025, which reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to their 2022 Memorandum of Understanding and follow-up discussions in June 2025.
India, which borders Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, also acknowledged its vulnerability to trafficking routes. Both India and Indonesia agreed to share intelligence, enhance legal cooperation, and ensure fair legal processes for citizens involved in transnational drug crimes.
