Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bank Indonesia and the Bank of Korea officially launched a cross-border QR payment linkage on Wednesday (1/4/2026), enabling Indonesian citizens to conduct transactions in South Korea using domestic mobile applications.
"This cross-border QR connectivity not only simplifies transactions but also strengthens MSMEs and boosts tourism to support inclusive economic growth," said Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, as reported by antaranews.com.
The initiative, part of a Joint Vision Statement between President Prabowo Subianto and President Lee Jae Myung, allows for direct local currency settlement, eliminating the need for physical foreign exchange.
By February 2026, QRIS users reached 60.77 million, with similar international partnerships already operational in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan. This latest collaboration aims to integrate digital financial systems between Jakarta and Seoul, fostering a more efficient and low-cost payment ecosystem for travelers and businesses alike.
