Indonesia and US Inaugurate Maritime Training Center in Batam

Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) and the United States inaugurated the 'Anambas' Maritime Training Center in Batam, Riau Islands. Admiral Irvansyah, the Head of Bakamla, said on Monday (29/1/2024) that the collaboration between Bakamla and the United States aimed to bolster security and safety in Indonesia's maritime territories, antaranews.com reported. "We are committed to creating a secure environment in Indonesian waters, free from any legal violations, and ensuring safety for maritime users," he said. He emphasized that the establishment of the maritime training center aligns with Bakamla's vision, particularly in establishing educational institutions or coast guard academies to improve the Bakamla personnel capacity Admiral Irvansyah highlighted the historic significance of the "Anambas" Maritime Training Center in Batam in fostering friendship between Indonesia and the United States. Funded by the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), the construction of the maritime training center costs around $5 million (Rp 79 billion). The facility includes six classrooms, a conference room, dormitories, offices, and simulator equipment. Michael F. Kleine, the Charge d'Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy in Indonesia, said that the maritime training center aims to cultivate professionalism and develop a platform to encourage collaboration.
