inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia and Czech Republic strengthen defense cooperation through a meeting between Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta.

Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang explained that strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and the Czech Republic will be carried out by renewing the defense cooperation agreement (DCA).

"Our DCA was over in 2023, and this visit also includes discussing how the existing agreement (DCA) can be renewed," said Frega on Tuesday (2/18/2025).

He explained that the Czech Republic is one of the countries that produces the main weapons system that has the quality, and has an economical and competitive price.

Furthermore, the two parties also discussed new cooperation opportunities, namely in addition to the cooperation that has been established since 2006 in the form of procurement of defense equipment, military equipment, and defense technology transfer.

"In our meeting, we also talked about the cooperation in education, military-military collaboration, and training,” continued Frega.

Frega said that the meeting discussed defense cooperation through the Defense University between the two countries.

"The Czech Republic has a Defense University, which brings an opportunity for us to cooperate in the Czech and Indonesian Defense Universities Collaboration. Moreover, talking about military and defense development is certainly not only related to defense equipment, but also related to human resources," noted Frega.

The two countries currently are still in the talks underway, and the Ministry of Defense will involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the cooperation as it is related to relations between countries.

He hopes that the extension of the DCA between Indonesia and the Czech Republic can be agreed upon soon. Moreover, he continued, there is a common understanding that both countries need defense cooperation.

"Moreover, the relationship between Indonesia and the Czech Republic is not newly established, but has been around for a long time," explained the Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense.
