Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said comedy provides a neutral platform for criticism of the government, highlighting its role as both entertainment and social commentary.
“I think comedy is a neutral space. Globally, it has always existed and is very important,” he told reporters on Wednesday (24/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
The minister stressed that satire and humor can be used not only to critique but also to promote ideas, as long as they are expressed politely and without offending others. To honor the contribution of comedians, the government has officially designated 27 September 2025 as National Comedy Day, marking the birthday of Bing Slamet, a legendary Indonesian comedian, singer, and actor.
Minister Fadli said the recognition aims to strengthen appreciation for comedy as part of Indonesia’s cultural journey. He also praised Indonesian comedians for entertaining the public and contributing to the nation’s creative legacy through platforms such as the annual Indonesian Comedy Awards.
