Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it has never received any proposal, including from the United States, about relocating Palestinian refugees from Gaza to Indonesia.
The clarification responded to an NBC News report claiming Donald Trump’s transition team, led by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, is exploring long-term solutions for Gaza’s reconstruction following a ceasefire. The report mentioned Indonesia as a potential relocation site for some of Gaza's two million residents.
“The Indonesian government has received no information regarding this matter,” Rolliansyah Soemirat, the Ministry’s spokesperson, said on Monday (20/1/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com
Critics argue relocating refugees could give Israel grounds to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homeland. The Trump team acknowledged the proposal's controversy among Palestinians and the broader Arab community.
Indonesia has maintained its committment to support Palestinian recovery through humanitarian aid and diplomatic efforts but rejects any refugee relocation plan, reiterating its commitment to Palestinian sovereignty and territorial rights.
