Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.   Indonesia is exploring the possibility of importing oil and gas from Russia, following a recent bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"This oil and gas import plan is already being explored. This week I’ll meet with a Russian delegation, including executives from their state-owned energy firms," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia on Tuesday (24/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The initiative includes not only import opportunities but also potential technological cooperation aimed at boosting Indonesia’s oil and gas output, particularly from aging wells.

President Putin confirmed Russia’s commitment to expand energy ties with Indonesia, including increased crude and LNG exports. He also highlighted the active collaboration between Rosneft and Pertamina on a refinery and petrochemical complex in East Java.

He added that Russia is open to joining Indonesia’s new energy and gas infrastructure projects, signaling broader strategic energy cooperation between the two nations.
