Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Iran won the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup title following a dramatic 5-5 draw against hosts Indonesia, ultimately prevailing 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Indonesia Arena on Saturday (7/2/2026).

Despite a historic performance that saw Indonesia reach their first-ever final, the Garuda squad fell just short after Israr Megantara and Dewa Rizki failed to convert their spot-kicks during the decisive shootout, as reported by antaranews.com.

"The pressure is on Iran, not Indonesia," head coach Hector Souto had noted prior to the match, reflecting the underdog spirit that drove his team to a 5-4 lead in the second period of extra time.

Israr Megantara netted a brilliant hat-trick for the hosts, while Reza Gunawan and Samuel Eko also found the scoresheet.

However, Iran’s persistent power play and a late equalizer from Salar Aghapour forced the game into penalties. While the defeat was a heartbreak for the home crowd, the silver medal represents Indonesia's best-ever finish in continental futsal history.
