Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have concluded substantive negotiations for the Indonesia–EAEU Free Trade Agreement (I–EAEU FTA) following a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg.
“I am very pleased that Indonesia and Russia have reached an agreement on our role in the Eurasian Economic Union,” said President Prabowo on Friday (20/6/2025) in a statement, as quoted by antaranews.com
The EAEU bloc includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Negotiations, launched in December 2022, have gone through five rounds and multiple intersessional meetings.
This agreement opens new export opportunities for Indonesia, particularly for key commodities such as crude palm oil, coffee, cocoa butter, rubber, and copra, while also facilitating increased imports from the EAEU of wheat, phosphate, coal, fertilizer inputs, and semi-finished iron.
With a combined population of over 460 million, the agreement is expected to expand market access, improve logistics, and boost bilateral investment. Indonesia aims to finalize and sign the agreement within 2025.
