Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi revealed that Indonesia managed 44,521 cases concerning the protection of Indonesian citizens abroad in 2023, evacuating 1,119 individuals, including 8 from Gaza.
"Currently, two WNI have chosen to remain in Gaza," said Minister Retno on Thursday (4/1/2024).
Additionally, she highlighted Indonesia's repatriation of over 1,100 WNI victims of human trafficking from online scam companies in Cambodia.
The ministry recorded a rise in human trafficking cases, surging from 361 in 2021 to 752 in 2022. Amidst this increase, the countries with a prevalence of human trafficking cases tied to online scams are expanding, encompassing Myanmar, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Minister Retno underscored the persistent challenges for human trafficking victims, emphasizing Indonesia's unwavering commitment to protect WNI subjected to technology-based human trafficking across various nations.
