inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut), is strengthening more innovative and impactful forestry cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday (3/30/2026), stated that this was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's directive regarding enhancing bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.

"Both parties agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation in the forestry sector, particularly in supporting the agenda of climate change control, land degradation rehabilitation, and world-class conservation area management," said Minister Raja Antoni.

This agreement emerged during a meeting between Minister Raja Juli Antoni and JICA Senior Vice President Yoshifumi Yoshikawa in Tokyo, Japan.

"The meeting proceeded constructively. Both parties affirmed their shared commitment to expanding existing collaboration and exploring new, more innovative and impactful opportunities for cooperation," said Raja Juli Antoni.

During the meeting, Raja Antoni emphasized the Indonesian government's strong commitment to climate change mitigation and accelerating the rehabilitation of degraded land as part of efforts to maintain environmental sustainability while improving public welfare.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Forestry also conveyed its ambitious vision of developing Indonesian conservation areas into World-Class National Parks, excelling not only in biodiversity protection but also in governance, ecotourism best practices, and contributing to the local and global economy.

"The Ministry of Forestry invites JICA to jointly strengthen the World Mangrove Center initiative as a bridge for global efforts in rehabilitation, research, education, and innovation in mangrove ecosystem management. This initiative is expected to become an international reference for nature-based climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts," said the Minister.

He added that JICA welcomed these initiatives and expressed its readiness to continue supporting Indonesia through technical cooperation, funding, and knowledge and technology exchange.
