Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Indonesian National Police (INP) and Papua New Guinea (PNG) Police are exploring plans for joint patrols along their shared border to address cross-border crimes, officials announced Wednesday (5/2/2025).
Inspector General Krishna Murti, the INP Head of International Relations Division, said that PNG Police have expressed interest in collaborating on border security, particularly between Indonesia’s Papua region and PNG’s West Sepik Province.
“PNG Police have expressed their interest in collaborating with Polri on joint patrols, particularly along the border areas,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The initiative follows a recent cooperation agreement between the two forces. Further discussions are set for Thursday, when Chief Murti and Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin meet with PNG officials in Vanimo, West Sepik’s capital.
To strengthen coordination, the INP will deploy a liaison officer in Papua and station officers at key border posts, including those near Timor-Leste. The move aims to enhance regional security and curb illegal activities along the porous border.
