Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has formally announced a strengthened climate commitment at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, setting an emissions target of 1.2–1.5 gigatons of CO₂ equivalent by 2035 and raising its renewable energy share to 23% by 2030.
The statement signals Indonesia’s push to accelerate Paris Agreement implementation despite global scrutiny over its coal dependency and forest-risk sectors.
“To advance the Paris Agreement, Indonesia submitted its second NDC in October 2025 and its National Adaptation Plan in November 2025,” Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq told the High-Level Segment as reported by antaranews.com on Tuesday (18/11/2025). “We have set an emission level of 1.2–1.5 gigatons CO₂ equivalent for 2035, increased renewable energy to 23 percent by 2030, and developed clean technology.”
Indonesia reiterated its commitment to net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner, referencing President Prabowo Subianto’s pledge at the UN General Assembly. However, environmental groups at COP30 questioned whether Indonesia’s continued reliance on coal and slow-paced transition policies could undermine these targets.
