Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai asserted on Saturday (26/7/2025) that the recent data-sharing agreement with the United States, included in a broader reciprocal trade deal, does not violate human rights.
“The agreement clearly states that any data exchange must adhere to Indonesian law, particularly the Personal Data Protection Law,” he said in a written statement, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Minister Pigai emphasized that data transfer is conducted cautiously, securely, and based on legal grounds—ensuring cross-border data traffic is properly governed.
“If the exchange is done under these terms, it does not breach human rights or contradict any related principles,” he added.
The White House previously announced the framework for a Reciprocal Trade Agreement with Indonesia, including the removal of digital trade barriers. Indonesia agreed to recognize the US as offering adequate data protection, enabling freer data flows.
