The Coalition of Sovereign Migrant Workers (KBMB), previously released a report containing the experience of torture of migrant workers in Indonesia while at the Sabah Immigration detention center a few weeks ago.
The Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said that the Indonesian side assessed that many detentions in Malaysia were overcrowded. Thus, the government decided that the acceleration of repatriation was one of the solutions.
"The latest information we received from our consulate in Tawau, hopefully there will be a process for the repatriation of more than 200 of our citizens who are in the Sabah detention center in Tawau [in Sabah] to Nunukan [in Kalimantan]," Judha said in a virtual press conference. on Thursday (14/7) when asked about developments.

Around 4,300 Indonesian migrant workers are recorded at the Malaysian immigration detention center. In Sabah, there are 440 migrant workers in 4 depots.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Judha, had held a special meeting with the KBMB and asked for detailed data regarding the alleged torture of migrant workers at the Malaysian immigration detention center. They have also studied the case.
