inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appealed to Indonesian citizens in the United States to know their legal rights and comply with regulations amid increasing enforcement of immigrants under President Donald Trump.

"We appeal to Indonesian citizens in the US to know your rights so that when you are a subject to legal action, you would know the rights that you have and you must fight for," said the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha on Thursday (2/13/2025).

Director Judha said that all Indonesian representatives in the US have conveyed the appeal to Indonesian citizens in the US through various channels.

These rights include the right to have consular access and contact Indonesian representatives, the right to be accompanied by a lawyer, and the right not to make any statements if not accompanied by a lawyer.

"All of these rights are protected in the US legal system, but of course (Indonesian citizens in the US) must understand this first so that when they are arrested they know what they should do," said Director Judha.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all Indonesian representatives have also taken coordinative steps and held virtual meetings to determine protective measures for Indonesian citizens who are potentially subject to action.

Thus, the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC and the Indonesian Consulates General spread across five major cities in the US are ready to provide the necessary legal assistance to Indonesian citizens affected by US immigration policies.

Data received by Indonesian representatives in the US as of November 24, 2024, there are 4,276 Indonesian citizens listed on the "final order of removal" list on the US Immigration and Customs Service (ICE). They are the most likely to be deported from the US.

He explained that the Indonesian citizens on the ICE list were known to not have complete documents to live in the US, but they were not arrested or detained. They are also required to report regularly to the ICE office.
