Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s long-awaited national car project is set to begin production in 2027, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita announced Thursday (13/11/2025).
The initiative will be developed by state-owned defense manufacturer PT Pindad, as reported by antaranews.com.
“Our national car is projected to start production in 2027,” Minister Agus said. “We have held detailed discussions with Pindad, covering vehicle types, production technology, pricing strategy, marketing, and after-sales services.”
He confirmed that the Ministry of Industry is also considering inviting additional partners to collaborate in developing the project.
“From our assessment, Pindad is ready, its concept is already comprehensive,” the minister added.
Minister Agus said his ministry is finalizing fiscal incentives for the automotive sector starting in 2026, given its strong backward and forward linkages to job creation and industrial growth.
President Prabowo Subianto earlier announced that Indonesia would have a domestically produced car within three years, with funding and land already allocated for the factory.
