Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Kabareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Commissioner General Agus Andrianto emphasized the importance of police cooperation among ASEAN countries in combatting transnational crimes, including transnational organized crime during the opening of the 23rd ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) at the Royal Ambarukmo in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (20/6/23).
The discussions revolved around ten transnational crime issues, encompassing drug trafficking, terrorism, cybercrime, arms smuggling, illegal wildlife and timber trade, human trafficking, money laundering, economic crimes, maritime piracy, and human smuggling, he provided detail.
The three-star general highlighted that cross-border crimes such as terrorism, human trafficking crimes (TPPO), money laundering, migrant smuggling, economic crimes, and cybercrimes continue to pose significant challenges for most ASEAN countries. These illicit activities not only undermine global and regional governance efforts but also pose threats to public safety.
"We fully recognize that transnational crime is a fundamental cause of suffering for communities and socio-economic instability," he said.
He further revealed that the event will focus on fostering cooperation in the eradication and enforcement of laws against transnational crimes. The outcomes of the event, including initiatives for cross-border collaboration, will be presented at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crimes (AMMTC) scheduled for September 2023.
He hoped that the event will yield tangible outcomes to fortify collaborative efforts against transnational crimes within the ASEAN region, stating, "It is expected that through good cooperation, in any ASEAN country where transnational crimes occur, all perpetrators can be prosecuted in accordance with applicable laws."
