inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate of Special Economic Crimes of the Indonesian National Police (INP) confiscated 201 tons of rice from several brands for violating quality and measurement standards. The hundreds of tons of rice consisted of premium and medium-grade rice.
"As of this morning, we have confiscated a total of 201 tons of rice," said Brigadier General Helfi Assegaf, at a press conference in South Jakarta, Thursday (7/24/2025).
The 201 tons of adulterated rice confiscated consisted of 39,036 bags of 5-kilogram premium rice from various brands and 2,304 bags of 2.5-kilogram premium rice.
Helfi stated that his team also confiscated several legal documents and supporting certificates, including production documents, maintenance documents, company legal documents, and distribution permits.
He confirmed that his team would continue the investigation by questioning several witnesses from the rice producing corporations that failed to meet quality standards. They would then conduct a case review to identify suspects.
On the other hand, Helfy explained that the initial information regarding the alleged substandard rice was provided by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman. Helfi stated that Amran discovered an anomaly in rice prices at the time.
Due to this case, Helfi stated that the public suffered losses of up to IDR 99.35 trillion.
