Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, the Director of General Crimes at the Indonesian National Polic (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency, announced that they have received 322 reports of electoral offenses throughout 2024.
He explained as of 26 February 2024, these reports comprised 149 cases under review, 108 cases closed, and 65 cases being handled by police authorities, both at the national level and within regional police forces, antaranews.com reported.
"Of these 65 cases, 16 are still under investigation, 12 have been closed, and 37 have progressed to the second stage, with some already receiving verdicts," he said on Tuesday (27/2/2024).
Chief Djuhandhani noted that these figures represent a decrease compared to the 2019 elections, referring to 314 cases in 2019.
"This demonstrates a significant decrease in the handling of cases by both Bawaslu and the police, from investigation to prosecution," he remarked.
Furthermore, Chief Djuhandhan highlighted that the number of cases in 2024 was fewer than in 2019, which totaled 849 cases, including reports and findings. Out of these, 367 were referred to the police, and 482 were closed.
"Our analysis indicates that this quantitative decrease is largely due to the support from the public," he added.
Chief Djuhandhan attributed the decline in reports of offenses in 2024 to the optimization of preventive measures implemented by the police.
"Moreover, the public and electoral participants have become more law-conscious, and one contributing factor is the relatively short campaign period. This is our analysis as to why electoral offenses have significantly decreased in 2024," he said.
