inp.polri.go.id - Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran is committed to continuously holding street races. After the proposal to use the Formula E circuit in Ancol, North Jakarta, was rejected, Polda Metro Jaya turned to the Meikarta area, Bekasi Regency, to held the street race. Inspector General Fadil Imran explained, the street race event should not be underestimated. According to him, the racing event, which aimed to eliminate illegal street racing, can also make the local community grow. This is because the event involved a number of workshops, MSMEs, to merchandise sellers. “However, we don't lose our hope, we will held it in Meikarta, because this event is just not for those who loves racing, but this is the street race ecosystem, there are many people involved in the event, there are mechanics, there are MSMEs, there are art performances, and many more, and I have tried to realize it," explained Metro Jaya Police Chief, Sunday (10/7/22). With that ecosystem, the Kapolda said that if a street race could be held at the Formula E circuit, it would provide benefits for Ancol. "So actually, if Ancol allows the street race in Ancol, the place could actually make a big profit, but that's from an ecosystem perspective. To those who are narrow-minded, they may see it as just a street racing, and remember that it’s not just a race, but it has an ecosystem that has a huge impact to the economy and local culture,” he said. Meanwhile, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno said the street race concept that was built by the Metro Jaya Police Chief requires a concrete action and needs to be realized properly and have a big impact on the community. "That's why what the Metro Jaya Police did is amazing. Honestly, I'm amazed too. Hopefully the race could be held in Ancol as well,” hoped Manpekraf. “What the Police did in the society in securing the illegal races in the street is merely to maintain the public order. But, what Polda Metro Jaya did is even better, they did not terminate the race, they provides solutions," explained the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. For this reason, Menparekraf supports the street race event and hopes it would made a big impact, especially in the economic field for MSME actors. "I believe this is an effort to support the economic growth, because every event that I call a base recovery event, has an economic impact on the community and opens up great opportunities and job opportunities," he explained.
