inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Environment (KLH) emphasized that Indonesia has made significant strides in strengthening its global carbon trading competitiveness. This strengthening was marked by the signing of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).
The signing was carried out between the Indonesian GHG Emission Reduction Certification (SPEI) and the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program by Verra.
This step complements previous achievements, where Indonesia has signed an MRA with the Global Carbon Council and Plan Vivo. This effort is a concrete demonstration of the government's commitment to building a carbon market with integrity, transparency, and inclusiveness.
KLH continues to encourage the optimization of Indonesia's comparative advantages, especially in the Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) and energy sectors, through the implementation of the Carbon Economic Value (NEK).
"This encourages the Indonesian Government to develop multiple schemes in the implementation of the Carbon Economic Value, including through a number of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs)," said Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq on Monday (10/6/2025).
According to Hanif, the established MRA expands the scope of quantifiable mitigation actions. Namely by using 58 methodologies in two nature-based sectors.
In addition, there are also 54 methodologies in three technology-based sectors. According to him, the development of multi-schemes is expected to be able to transform comparative advantages into competitive advantages in international carbon trading.
"Competitive advantages can only be realized by building an inclusive carbon market, supported by transparent and robust infrastructure to produce high-integrity carbon credits," he said.
