inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sukamta assessed that the Israeli attack on the Indonesia Hospital (RSI) in Beit Lahiya, North Gaza, was not only a serious violation of the law, but also a form of harassment against Indonesia.
"The attack was not only a heinous act that violates the principles of international humanitarian law, but also an insult to our country. This building represents Indonesia, standing with the name and honor of the nation. Therefore, Israel must be responsible before international law," said Sukamta in Jakarta, Thursday (6/5/2025).
According to him, the attack, which happened on Monday (6/2/2025) not only paralyzed vital medical services in the region, but also was an insult to the real contribution of the Indonesian people to global humanity.
"RSI was built from donations from the Indonesian people through MER-C which is a civilian building that carries out universal humanitarian functions, not military," he said.
Sukamta emphasized that the attack on RSI violated various international laws, including the Geneva Convention IV (1949) which emphasizes protection for civilian medical facilities in conflict situations.
He considered the attack on the RSI to violate Article 8 of the Rome Statute, which states that attacks on civilian hospitals are war crimes.
