inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Director of Population and Social Security at the Ministry of National Development Planning, Muhammad Cholifihani, stated that Indonesia's Life Table is being used to transform the demographic bonus into a welfare dividend towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.

"The demographic bonus should not be overlooked. With the Life Table, we can transform the bonus into a welfare dividend," said Director Cholifihani, Monday (10/6/2025).

Currently, Indonesia is said to still be enjoying a demographic bonus phase with a dominant productive-age population, and will soon enter an aging population era. However, data also shows that the increase in the productive-age population will be accompanied by an increase in the elderly population.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for 2020-2045, the proportion of Indonesia's population aged 9-14 years of the total population in 2025 was approximately 24.46 percent, 15-64 years of age 64.61 percent, and 65 years and above 11.93 percent.

The projection for 2045 is estimated at 19.61 percent for those aged 9-14 years, 60.22 percent for those aged 15-64 years, and 18.47 percent for those aged 65 and above.

"This means that in the coming decades, the proportion of our elderly population will rocketed and the consequences are clear. First, the burden of health and pension costs will certainly be large and will increase. Second, we need to ensure the productivity of those aged 15-64 years is healthy, not only when young, but also as they grow older," explained Cholifihani.

With the Life Table, he continued, it can map Indonesia's future through numbers that tell about life expectancy, health quality, and cross-generational challenges. In other words, the Life Table serves as a compass or guide for targeting policies appropriately, not just mere statistics.

"Public policy must be based on accurate and precise population data to realize the Vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," said Director Cholifihani.

In addition, the table also provides data to help formulate evidence-based policies that are effective and efficient. It also has a strong scientific basis compiled based on the 2020 Population Census with the latest statistical methods, making it more relevant to Indonesia's conditions than global models. It also provides meaning for the younger generation, considering that more targeted policy directions will support Indonesia as a place for quality growth.
